About the Role
Ngarrngga means ‘to know, to hear, to understand’ in Taungurung language. It is a project which aims to empower educators to teach Australian students about the depth and wealth of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ histories, cultures and contributions to Australia.

Ngarrngga is a signature initiative of the University of Melbourne. It is led by the Melbourne Graduate School of Education (MGSE) in partnership with the University of Melbourne’s Indigenous Knowledge Institute and Indigenous Studies Unit.

The Digital/Graphic Designer will work alongside the Digital Engagement Officer to build the reach, engagement and profile for Ngarrngga, predominantly through social media, website content and robust email marketing.

As the Digital/Graphic Designer, you will ensure that Ngarrngga’s visual assets truly embody the project’s values and core principles. Your role will involve adapting current brand assets, as well as creating new visual content that aligns with the project’s communications strategy. The role will involve design across a wide range of platforms including our website, social media channels, promotional materials, curriculum resources, and annual reports.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing, laying out and uploading vibrant and engaging content for the Ngarrngga project across digital and print
  • Contributing to image selection, data presentation, interaction design and visual accessibility directly or in collaboration with the curriculum team and Ngarrngga Directorate
  • Managing and cataloguing in-house visual asset library

Who We Are Looking For
We’re seeking a candidate who can demonstrate a flair for crafting captivating visual content that enhances engagement across digital, print, and multimedia channels. Proficiency in utilizing Adobe Creative Suite is essential. Your experience in basic image retouching and expertise in crafting e-newsletters and digital layouts will be valuable assets. Your ability to work both independently and collaboratively, taking design projects from concept to delivery, is key. Your knack for adapting to evolving circumstances and maintaining efficient workflows to meet deadlines is highly appreciated. A positive and collaborative attitude, along with a hands-on approach to design delivery, is what we’re seeking.

You will also have:

  • A relevant degree in graphic and/or digital design, or equivalent extensive experience in a similar role.
  • Excellent oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail.
